LCD screens are the most modern types of screens available and LCD monitors tend to be extremely handy compared to their old CRT types. LCD basically stands for Liquid Crystal Display and it consists of active-matrix panel and polarizers. These act as a light filter and they are placed in front of a backlight. There are so many benefits of the LCD screens compared to the older CRT ones that you really cannot go wrong. For example, the LCD screen provides excellent text contrast. Ordinary CRT screens tend to have bandwidth limited poor contrast text.

Another advantage is that the screen does not flicker whereas older screens do. Each person reacts differently to the flicker from a CRT screen but generally it can cause a lot of problems in various people. So, an LCD screen is certainly safer than a CRT for the eyes.

Are There Any Disadvantages?

As with everything there are disadvantages to owning an LCD screen. They do of course cost a little more, though prices are gradually decreasing. Another surprising disadvantage is the fact that they do not seem to handle photographs very well. The screen makes the photos look dull and flat due to the backlight. Photos on a CRT screen on the other hand look fantastic and it adds a little something extra to them.

It seems that LCD screens are better for office use but for things such as photography, a CRT screen may be better for you. However, it is possible to purchase more expensive LCD screens which do accommodate for photos; you just have to look around to find one which is right for you.
