Computer Keyboards
Anyone who owns a computer
will need a computer keyboard
and whilst not everyone is computer minded and knows how
to use one, it is still an essential part of any computer.
For the people who are new to computers and the keyboard,
it is fairly basic and it is extremely easy to use!
What is a Keyboard?
Basically the computer keyboard derived from the old
typewriter keyboard and it is used to input text and to
control the computer.
There are many different designs of keyboards but the
letters on the keyboard always stay the same. With technology
these days, wireless
keyboards are hot property and they are generally keyboards
which do not have to be wired to the computer. There are
also quite a few layouts of symbols that are there to
accommodate for many different people with different needs.
Keyboards vary in price and you could easily pop into
a computer shop or go to a car boot sale and pick one
up for next to nothing. These bog standard keyboards are
just the plain and simple ones, no frills, no gimmicks
– they are just there to do the simple tasks that
are required. On the other end of the market come the
more advanced keyboards with a lot more features on them.
What Features Do You Need For a Keyboard?
When the keyboards from 1995 were brought out, there
were 103 keys on them, but now two more have been added
to make it up to 105.
You can purchase just a normal straightforward keyboard
that plugs into the PS/2
port and it is fairly cheap. This type of keyboard only
does the job of typing data or any other writing task
needed though. The problem you face with this is, if you
after something a little bit more deluxe and comfortable
then it will not be the right keyboard for you. Do you
want to just settle for the plain keyboard over the better
ones on the market?
A lot of people do not really need all of the advanced
keyboards with extra features and buttons. So if you are
one of those people then an ordinary, cheap keyboard will
be fine for you. It is all down to personal taste and
circumstances as to what keyboard you do actually go for.
There are people who need certain keyboards for certain
tasks or occupations. Take for example touch typists.
There are keyboards with two blocks of the letters which
have been split into two which would be perfect for the
touch typists and they have been designed for ease of
use.
Connecting a Keyboard
When it comes to the connection of a keyboard, there
are a few ways in which you can actually connect it. You
may have heard of the following:-
• PS/2
• USB
For people who do not have a clue what the two above
are for, let’s explain it a little further. Say
that your computer has a PS/2 port on the computer and
you buy a USB
keyboard, unless there is any USB ports in your computer
then it will simply not work. It is vice versa with a
USB connection and a PS/2 keyboard.
A great keyboard to go for includes the Logitech
DiNovo Keypad Keyboard. It looks stylish and it is well
made as well as being extremely functional. It is one
of the more expensive keyboards however so you may want
to look for something a little cheaper. Other brands of
keyboard you should take a look at include Labtec,
Trust,
Microsoft
and Fellowes.
Overall though Logitech and Microsoft are the best brands
to choose from.
So, whatever keyboard you decide to go for, make sure
that it is the right one for you and that it suits your
needs the most.
